The Superman

I’m in the back parking lot of my middle school, its night time and I can’t see anything. A thick shroud of darkness lingers in the air, I can however feel the ground beneath me. The concrete of my middle school pack parking lot was icy and slippery. I ran forward and found that I could slide across the dark and slippery surface without worry of falling or becoming wet.

A few more times I slid back and forth becoming more elated each time.

“This isn’t possible, I should have fallen or gotten wet” I think.

The realization that I’m in a dream hits me, I look around waiting for something to happen. A few meters in front of me, what seems to be a platform embedded within the ground opens down and white light shines through. Suddenly I sense that I am surrounded by people intent on keeping me from entering. I flail my arms outwards and the ice becomes water except for a strip from where I stand to the trap door. I slide full force out through the trap door and down the ramp.

Then I’m falling, high above the earth I can see it slowly getting bigger and bigger as I approach it. I’m not scared at all but elated, I know this is a dream and I know I can control it.

I land on an island, on the beach. I look up from where I had fallen from and see only a distant black square which I close with the wave of a hand.

I begin to leap, far, really far. I see water and a whole collection of islands as I look down from what must be no less than a thousand meters. I fall slowly back down landing on another island, then I jump again linger another moment in the sky looking down at the beautiful scene. It’s vivid as any externally generated experience I’ve ever had.

Then I’m in a mountain scenery, and I’m still lucid. Again I start to lea, this time leap from mountaintop to mountaintop all the while admiring the beauty of the green and brown landscape. I find what is clearly the highest mountaintop and stand atop it for a moment.

“This is the longest I have ever been lucid” I think.

Then I’m ejected high into the sky by something other than my own conscious will. Soon I’m orbiting the earth, I can see the sun beginning to emerge from behind the east of the planet. I allow myself for a moment to enjoy the warmth and comfort and peace I feel with my planet and myself. My most vivid conscious thought at that point was that I had done this all myself, my brain had provided me with a world where I felt happier than I perhaps had ever been. Happy in knowing that all the peace, serenity, beauty and ecstasy that I’m feeling have all been generated inside my mind and nothing else. Happiness was there, it was accessible. I taught myself to love and embrace myself, just knowing that I was capable of that.

“My brain can do this”

It’s inside me, and the comfort of that realization, to me, is more profound that perhaps anything I’ve ever experienced.
